I spent a bunch of time and a few dozen reboots and launches, each time trying just one thing different on each reboot until I think I hit on a successful and reproducible way to get HDR functioning properly. I had no idea what I did, but something was causing HDR to start functioning. Thing is: every so often while playing with HDR settings, suddenly ShadowPlay would start working in HDR and would then continue to function normally until I restarted my PC, at which point it would be completely broken again. I occasionally create content for Destiny 2, and thought I'd start doing HDR until I ran into this.
